There's sometyhing I want to talk about & I feel this is the area to get in depth on it. I recently brought it up in my Facebook status update & actually had a very good turn out regarding the matter, so let's bring it here to see others chime in. And if there's any wrestlers onboard who wish to chime in, feel free to.
Let's start from the beginning for some background, if you will. Chucky is a loyal fan of EXW & a great guy. He takes care of the wrestlers with whatever needs they have, such as shirts & any other forms of merchandise. He also has a VERY strong friendship/relationship with the wrestlers.
When members of EXW started asking fans to bring streamers to show respect for their wrestlers, a tradition done in Japan & started here in Arizona by Borracho, Chucky decided to have some fun with it. So when the Freak Squad would come to the ring & their fans threw streamers, Chucky & his crew threw Twinkies at Frenchy. Frenchy has always been cool about this & both Dom & Frenchy have had fun with it & Chucky. Chucky always suppled the Twinkies & would even hook some of hus friends in the crowd he knew he could trust with Twinkies.
At the December 7th show, a different group of fans decided to bring Twinkies, as well. And every time Frenchy was out, the Twinkies were flying from all sorts of directions. Then right before the main event, Frenchy was out &, sure enough, the Twinkies were flying. Well, one of the members of this new crew threw a Twinkie that hit Frenchy square in the face, in which Frenchy grew furious at this. So he started throwing Twinkies back in anger at first, then when he realized who the thrower was, he smashed a Twinkie in the guys face & hollered for security to throw him out.
The person involved insists it was an accident, yet he was appologized to & from my understanding, was taken care of in a respectful manner. But honestly, no appology should have been necessary except from the person who threw the Twinkie.
This sounds crazy, but Frenchy could have been legitametly injured before his match. The tips of the Twinkie plastic has edges on them with points &, yes, if hit in the eye area, could scratch a retina or cause severe eye damage. This is the honest to goodness truth! Therefore, Frenchy had every right to do what he did towards the fan in question!
A few people at the show felt that what Frenchy did was uncalled for. You know what? They're wrong! The fact of the matter is that the barricade is there for a reason. Once you go over that barricade in any form, you have crossed the line & opened yourself to any form of trouble.
Case in point, as pointed out by Mike James on my Facebook: "See Shane Douglas vs. Tommy Dreamer 12/7/96" Look it up in your history book.
1979-Greg Valentine versus Chief Jay Strongbow in an Indian Strap Match in Madison Square Garden. Valentine goes for a steel chair as planned & a fan reaches over the barricade, yanking the chair from Valentine. Valentine retalliates forearm shots to the fan to get him to drop the chair until security intervened.
Rob Van Dam versus Eddie Guerrero-Monday NIght Raw...Fan shoves the ladder out from Eddie, which could have caused Eddie to fall & injure himself.
Bubba Ray Dudley in his ECW days has attacked a fan who actually swung at him because he took it a little to seriously.
And as I pointed out in my article on him, Nick DeMicheal is a friend of mine. In 1 of his matches during his IZW days, his opponent was holding him with his chest exposed & telling me to hit DeMicheal. Did I do it? No! And why not? Because that would have been crossing the line. Nick never gave me the go ahead & it would have been him I was hitting. In fact, several fans were given the opportunity & they all declined until Lionheart, who was in attendance as a fan & there to visit, did so. Had a fan done it, including myself, Nick would have had every right to turn around & kick that fan's ass!
That barricade is an invisible wall between the wrestlers & the fans. The fans need to follow what I call Haunted House Rules. In a haunted house, you are forbidden to touch the employees, as they are forbidden to touch you. Cross that line & you will be ejected, plus they are allowed to retaliate in self defense.
Chucky & Frenchy have had a long understanding between each other...as well as mutual respect. If you notice when Chucky throws a Twinkie, not 1 single Twinkie comes close to Dom or Frenchy.
Therefore, what was done towards Frenchy was a sign of disrespect. Because, if he was hit in the face, it is apparent that the throw was meant to hit Frenchy, in the first place. Afterall, Frenchy wasn't moving. And there's no way he could have dodged it for the fact that the lights make it hard to see...which is why Frenchy first started throwing Twinkies randomly in the general vicinity (which almost hit our own Will Nolte) until a few fans pointed to the culprit...in which those fans knew he deserved his just due.
And sadly, this recent event means that maybe it's time the Twinkies stopped. Afterall, this is not the first time a Twinkie was thrown out of disrespect. About a month ago, somebody got a hold of a Twinkie after they were cleared from the ring & through it at Frenchy right in the middle of his match....which could have put both wrestlers at risk.
So my point? Unless you have been given permission beforehard from those involved & you know what the hell you're doing...DON'T DO IT!!
And if you do decide to be stupid & do something like this again, be ready for the consequences...because this makes you an open target.
And if getting a Twinkie shoved in the face hurts your feelings, think about how lucky you got off. Technically, Frenchy could have pressed charges like they do in the World Wrestling Federation or Total Nonstop Action for the exact same act!
