September 10th, 2010...Elite Xtreme Wrestling crowned their first ever EXW Heavyweight Champion in the main event of The Day the Earth Stood Still. When the 3 count was finished, Derrick Neikirk stood in the center of the ring as Val Venis raised his hand in victory & handed him the latest championship in wrestling career that has taken Neikirk all over the world. Little did Neikirk know that the man standing in the ring with him, raising his hand in victory would be the first man to face him as the EXW’s #1 Contender…a man who has beaten Neikirk via pin fall in a singles match.
Neikirk’s championship resume is definitely one to be proud of. Neikirk’s a former two time NWA-Arizona Heavyweight Championship, a Heartland Wrestling Association tag team champion with Chet Jablonski, & a former Deep South Wrestling tag team champion with former friend Mike Knox (then known as Team Elite). Neikirk has also beaten the current World Wrestling Entertainment United States Champion, the Miz, to obtain the Deep South Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.
Most folks do not know that Neikirk befriended Val Venis when both men worked for the WWE & both men have traveled the roads together. But Venis is not ashamed to remind Neikirk of where both men have been. Venis had an 11 year tenure in the WWE that brought him several championships that he, as well, is proud of. Venis has been a 2 time Intercontinental Champion, a former World Tag Team Champion with Lance Storm, & a former European Champion…not to mention several championships on the independent circuit.
And now, the EXW locker room is abuzz on the up coming championship match between the former friends in a feud that started on July 6th, 2010 at Xtreme Tuesday. At that time, Val Venis was not e member of the EXW roster but an invited guest of FTW to watch the show & meet fans. The main event of the evening was a tag team match in which Tyson Tyler & Derrick Neikirk were forced together by FTW in a Tag Team Tables Match against the Atlantic City All-Stars. Neikirk managed to get the win for his team by spearing Ryan Castelucci through a table & as he celebrated with his tag team partner, Neikirk showed his true colors to Tyler by turning on his partner. This angered Venis in the audience, as he never expected to see Neikirk do such an act…especially to his own tag team partner. Venis confronted Neikirk in the ring & issued him a challenge, telling Neikirk that he would put him in his place.
Two weeks later, Venis & Neikirk met back in the ring on Xtreme Tuesday. Venis scored the victory following a Money Shot & the referee made the 3 count. After the match, Venis took his friends’ hand & raised it in the center of the ring & both men looked to have made up after a talk, as well as an embrace. This was not the case, as Neikirk through his friendship aside & laid Venis laying flat in the ring. Since July 20th, 2010, Venis has been hot on the trail of Neikirk but the only way Neikirk would face him is in tag team matches or 6 man tag matches.
But on September 14th, 2010, Neikirk informed Venis that he MAY get his chance to face him…but in order to do so, he would have to beat the man he’s teamed up with, as well as aided in the past…Tyson Tyler. Both men battled it out in the ring, only to have Tyler fall up short to the Money Shot. And after the match was done, Neikirk decided to come in the ring & give Venis a sneak peak of what was to come. Venis managed to block a kick, but was blindsided by Neikirk showing a trick he learned in Japan; red mist to the face.
And now that Neikirk has added a new dirty trick to his arsenal, is Val Venis ready for him with some tricks of his own? After all, Venis has been around the wrestling world longer then Neikirk. Venis has traveled the world. But Neikirk has shown he is not afraid to take his matches over the edge. And this has the fans, as well as some of the EXW Elite, giving their thoughts on who they think will win the match:
Jimmy Nova, fan: “Val Venis because not even the manliest men can handle a Money Shot to the face.”
Will Nolte, fan & owner of Arizona Local Wrestling Forum (http://alwf.proboards.com/); “Val. He takes Derrick back to school every match. Derrick is a slow learner and is stuck in his ways.”
Ryan Castelucci: “Yo Val and Nardkick? Val hands down ; if he wears a cup.”
Gabriel Gallo: "I can't say who is going to win, as they are both great wrestlers. But, I'm pulling for Val cuz he's my buddy & Neikirk's a prick."
Dom “the Bomb” Vitalli: “Neikirk. He may be a huge prick, but that's what you gotta do to be the champ. Therefore, I will make a fantastic champion someday.”
Benjamin J Borracho, fan: “Derrick doesn't lose. Ever. If put in a triple threat match versus God and Satan, he would no sell the Judgment and the fires of hell, kick someone in the knackers and get the win. “
Prophet: “Both Neikirk and Venis are former WWE employees, both are 2 of EXW’s biggest and strongest guys, but Val goes off the top a little more than Derrick. I think Val has the goods to win the championship, but Derrick may have a trick up his sleeve to retain it a while longer?”
Donnie Anderson, fan: “As far as the match with Val and Neikirk, val is an incredible wrestler! But, I believe Neikirk will win because he is sneaky and underhanded, and will pull a low blow to get his victory!”
So now the big question remains…which fans & which EXW Elite is right in their prediction? Does Val Venis have what it takes to pull of a second victory over Derrick Neikirk? Or can Neikirk, technically the underdog going in with a loss, show the world that his first loss was a fluke & that he is far more prepared for this match?
