September 10th, 2010 is truly a day that will go down in Elite Xtreme Wrestling’s history books as the events at Marquee Theatre lived up to the name of the show: The Day the Earth Stood Still. Revenge was on the mind of some people, with some being dealt out while others came up on the short end of the stick. Respect was earned by many while trust was hard to find for some. And in the end, the first EXW Heavyweight Champion was standing in the ring, victorious, but only for a short time.
Before things got underway, the fans in attendance were treated to a set from the local band Bro Loaf plus a special bonus match that saw the return of Mike Da’Lite & Remy Marcel, teaming up as the Poppers, as they tagged in a 6-Man Tag Team Match with Bryce Harrison. Their opponents in this bonus match would also be the team to go onto victory, as Bryce Slaven teamed up with “The Rebel With a Cause” Andrew Hellman & EXW newcomer Manimal. Prior to the match starting, Hellman noticed Atlantic City All-Star member Woodro Santenelli sitting in the front row, so he took it upon himself to get into Santenelli’s face to badmouth him & his tag team partner, Ryan Castelucci.
Ring announcer Johnny Roxx then officially opened the show by welcoming the fans in attendance to the Marquee Theatre. As Roxx spoke of the night’s matches, he proudly displayed the new EXW Heavyweight Championship for all to see. When mentioning the main event for said championship, the crowd was literally divided between the participants for the belt, Derrick Neikirk & Tyson Tyler. Roxx also announced to the crowd the injured Santenelli sitting in the front row, who’s leg was still in a cast from the attack he suffered 2 weeks ago outside his condo. The crowd gave a standing fist pump for Santenelli, who gladly fist pumped back for the fans to thank them for the support.
And then it was time for the opening contest, as the undefeated streak of Cutler Wright was on the line. Before Wright’s opponent was announced, he had Roxx remind the fans that he is undefeated & that he has yet to find an opponent worthy of facing him in the ring for a match. Roxx gladly obliged to Wright’s requests & announced his opponent as a man who has not been inside an EXW ring since it’s first show on February 19th, 2010 at the Pavilion of Rawhide, Khan Kussion. In Kussion’s first match for EXW, he lost a tag team encounter with partner Ryan Castelucci against the Freak Squad, but this time he was ready to show EXW fans he can go better alone. Wright quickly got out of the ring, refusing to get back into the ring unless Kussion relinquished his trademark axe to the referee. Kussion played this up, using his axe as if it was a shotgun, pointing, & shooting towards Wright. When the match officially got under way. Wright was able to get the advantage early on with a side headlock to the mat, & as both men returned to their feet, Wright gave Kussion a bitchslap in the center of the ring to show him that this was his ring. Eventually, Kussion got the upper hand, including a bitchslap of his own, & this angered Wright as he left the ring, telling the referee he would rather lose by count out. Kussion left the ring as well, but came back in with a steel chair & decided to take a seat in the center of the ring until Wright decided to return. Wright would still have no part of Kussion, so Kussion forced himself onto Wright by running the ropes & using the chair as a step stool to jump to the top rope & splash Wright, who was standing on the Marquee Theatre stage. Wright managed to escape from Kussion & made his way to the other side of the ring, as Kussion used the top rope again, this time to propel himself over & flip on top of Wright on the outside. Kussion gets Wright set up on the ringside barrier & runs at him for a standing leg drop, but Wright manages to dodge out of the way. Wright follows up by throwing Kussion into the ringside barrier & throwing several punches in his direction.
As the match finally made it back into the ring, Wright connects with a dropkick as Kussion rebounded off the ropes & goes for a pin attempt. Kussion managed a kick out to avoid a loss, but he continued to come up short as Wright connected with a kick to the midsection. A swinging Neckbreaker later had Kussion down on the mat as Wright left the ring, only to retrieve a steel chair of his own. Wright sets the chair up in the middle of the ring & takes a seat as he applies a reverse chin lock to Kussion as the crowd breaks out into , “He’s soft-core!!” chants. Kussion manages an escape & sends Wright into his own chair via a drop toe hold & sets him up for the camel clutch in the center of the ring,. After several moments, Wright can not take the pain anymore as Khan Kussion hands him his very first loss since his attitude adjustment & Wright taps out to the delight of the crowd.
The familiar music of the Freak Squad then began to play after the ring was cleared out & Frenchy Rivera made his way to the ring with his attaché of weapons for his Hardcore Falls Count Anywhere Open Challenge Match. Rivera took the microphone from Roxx & spoke of his match to come up & let the fans know nobody has yet to accept the open challenge. Rivera then added, “Let’s cue up the music & get a victim out here!” And when all was said & done, the musical notes of the “Chicano Assassin” Chuey Martinez hit the sound system. Martinez was making his EXW return to get revenge on Rivera for the pre-show attack the Freak Squad did on August 8th, 2010 that took Martinez out of the scheduled tag team match with him & Gabriel Gallo against the Freak Squad. Martinez hit the ring in full force, attacking Rivera before the bell rang. Martinez gets Rivera down in the corner & goes for the trash can of weapons brought in the ring by his opponent. After rummaging through this cornucopia of goodies, Martinez decides to start things off with the bowling ball, as he bowls a perfect game right into Rivera’s testicular fortitude. Martinez then picked the bowling ball up & dropped it right down on Rivera’s midsection. Martinez then grabs a Twinkie thrown into the ring by the crowd & rummages through the can some more, discovering that Rivera brought a staple gun into the ring. Martinez stapled the Twinkie to the forehead of Rivera, hoping it would stay so Rivera could save one for later as a snack. As both men battled, the match made it outside the ring, where Martinez took an even bigger advantage of the weapons Rivera brought into the match where he took a kendo stick to Rivera’s back. Martinez was able to get the upper hand though, throwing Martinez into the ringside barrier. Rivera managed to get 1 of the crutches broken after missing a swing on Martinez against the ring post. Rivera used this to his advantage, digging the broken piece into the forehead of Martinez, cutting him open. Rivera then pulled out his secret weapon that was in his shin pad, the cheese grater, digging it into Martinez’s forehead, opening his wound even more. Rivera then retrieved his trash can he brought to the ring, crashing it down not once, not twice, but three times on the back of Martinez. Rivera then went after the kendo stick, where he brought it down to the head of a standing Martinez twice outside the ring. By this point, both men took their brawl into the crowd of the Marquee Theatre, throwing several punches as well as trash can shots to each other. Both men battled it out in the crowd with neither man getting the upper hand on each other. The match was taken out into the lobby area as the crowd followed not to miss any action. Martinez decided at this point to turn the match into a Bar Room Brawl, climbing on top of the Marquee Theatre Bar in the lobby area, where he went for a Running Plancha on Rivera, who sidestepped the attack. Rivera used this to his advantage & covered Martinez for the pin, proving that he is far more hardcore & smarter then Martinez had him pegged to be. Rivera made his way back through the crowd, into the ring, to celebrate as his music played, & a small portion of the crowd cheered.
After the mess was cleaned up in the ring, it was now time for the Gauntlet Match featuring Ryan Castelucci. Fists were pumping as Castelucci made his way to the ring & noticed his cousin, Santenelli, sitting in the front row. Castelucci went out to his cousin for hugs & handshakes, as his cousin was there for moral support. Just then, CEO FTW’s music played, as he made his way to the ring with his bodyguard, Monster Mayhem, & his new beau, Miss DeDe. FTW got on the mic, where he informed Castelucci what he did to back up ring announcer Sal Erakat on August 31st, 2010 at Xtreme Tuesday, where Castelucci attacked Erakat a second time to send a message to FTW. “Your actions last week were unacceptable,” is how FTW explained what he witnessed. FTW then told Castelucci what he was in for in the Gauntlet Match, in which every 30 seconds a new participant enters the ring…eventually causing Castelucci going alone against who knows how many opponents at this point.
As the match began, Castelucci was introduced to his first Gauntlet entry which was the EXW return of Jeff Orcutt who was at the first show on February 19th, 2010 & hasn’t been seen since. Castelucci took the first advantage with an arm bar, but Orcutt managed to get to the ropes to break the hold. As the 30 seconds began to expire, Crash Test Cody was out to show the fans that he’s serious about being in EXW, taking a payoff from FTW to be in the Gauntlet & take out Castelucci. The clock continued ticking & the number game was starting to go against Castelucci as the third participant came in aka Jerry One. Castelucci was able to get the upper hand on One with an ankle lock submission attempt. One managed to escape with enough time for EXW newcomer, Kyle Hawk, to come flying off the top rope with a flying clothesline, taking Castelucci by surprise. Castelucci tried to hold his own here, as fatigue against a fresh man every 30 seconds began taking it’s toll on him, when the next opponent in the ring was Johnny Manson…leaving the crowd divided. Hawk & Manson teamed up to slow Castelucci down & hit him with a double suplex in the center of the ring. This brought out the final participant, as FTW has something with the number 6 after hiring 6 goons to attack Santenelli & injuring him. Mosh Pit Mike was set for his EXW debut, as he attacked Castelucci, sending him outside the ring. Castelucci was then thrown into the ring barrier by his opponents, as they all worked over Castelucci. Castelucci was then thrown across the ringside area & into the barrier opposite the previous one. Orcutt started laying the boot to Castelucci as his “partners” egged him on. Several of Castelucci’s opponents hoisted him up, clothes lining him on the ring barrier. Castelucci was thrown back in the ring, as the referee was distracted, & 4 of his foes grabbed & through him in the air for an alley oop. Cody grabs Castelucci up from the mat & sends him crashing back down with a Russian Leg Sweep & Orcutt follows up by grabbing Castelucci & sending him into the corner.
At this point, the 6 men are working together as a finely tuned unit & giving each other directions on what to do next…in which One directs Mike & follows it up by sending Mike crashing into Castelucci in the corner with a drop toe hold head butt. Orcutt grabs Castelucci up & hits him with his second suplex of the night & goes for a pin attempt, but Castelucci reverses it into a leg lock attempt. Orcutt, thankfully, is close to the ropes & manages to break the hold via rope grab. Castelucci follows it up with a death valley driver on the Orcutt. Castelucci was eventually set up on the top rope by Mike, but a code breaker off the top rope to Mike was enough for a pin attempt. And as the referee started dropping his hand for the 1-2...miscommunication amongst his opponents finally set up, as everybody was tripping over each other to break the pin up, & the referee counted 3 for the pin. Castelucci’s hand was raised in victory & he made his way to ringside to celebrate with Santenelli. But his victory was short lived, as Andrew Hellman attacked Castelucci from behind, forcing an injured Santenelli to watch on, helpless due to his injury. Hellman sent Castelucci back into the ring, where he climbed to the top rope & leaped off with a Randy Savage-perfect elbow drop. Hellman stood above an injured Castelucci & taunted Santenelli from the ring, then taunted Castelucci before he left the ring to the boo’s of the crowd.
As Castelucci was helped into the back, the crowd was informed it was now time for the Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Match. Dom” the Bomb” Vitalli made his way to the ring first, wielding his special Dom “the Bomb” chair. But Vitalli’s preparations didn’t last long, as Gabriel Gallo attacked him before the bell rang. Gallo sent Vitalli into the corner, where he nailed a chop, & followed it up with punches on Vitalli. Gallo then managed to get Vitalli down on the mat in a sitting position, where he connected with a knee to the face. Gallo removed his anti-Freak Squad shirt he wore to the ring & started choking Vitalli out with it, using it as a sling, & throwing Vitalli across the ring with it. Vitalli managed a short lived comeback, as Gallo flipped him over the top rope, & out to the ringside area. Vitalli was then snatched up & dropped down into a clothesline on the ringside barrier & as he gasped for air, Gallo followed up with several chops to the back. Vitalli was then thrown across the ringside area & into the barrier, where he was flipped over, & into the crowd. Vitalli was able to mount a comeback onto Gallo though & gain an advantage back inside the ring, as Gallo got caught up in the ring ropes thanks to Vitalli. Vitalli flipped off the ropes into a leg drop on the back. Vitalli then climbed outside the ring, where he brought the first ladder into play, setting it up against the ring ropes inside the ring. This turned out to be a disadvantage for Vitalli, as Gallo sent him into the ladder not once, but twice. Gallo then set the ladder down on the mat, as he opened it up, & placed Vitalli’s head into it. In frustrated attempts to bring the ladder down on Vitalli’s head, the ladder actually broke on Gallo, but this also made it easier for Gallo to smash it down on the head of Vitalli. Gallo then laid the ladder flat on Vitalli’s head & kicked at the ladder several times. Gallo then retrieves a chair &, as Vitalli is still prone inside the ladder, Gallo brings the chair down 5 times onto the ladder & his opponent, which causes Vitalli to bust open.
Both men eventually managed to get outside the ring, as the fists were flying with several punches. Vitalli gets sent back in the ring & into the corner, where Gallo runs at him with his trademark baseball slide. As Gallo gets back to his feet, he sets himself up to spear Vitalli, but Vitalli avoided the spear with a chair to the skull of Gallo. Vitalli followed up with several kicks to the head & then sends him into a steel chair set up in the corner between the 2nd & 3rd ropes. Gallo is now wearing a mask of blood similar to Vitalli’s, as Vitalli gained revenge for being busted open. Vitalli throws Gallo outside the ring through the ropes, sending him crashing into the ringside barrier, much to the displeasure of the fans. Gallo is then thrown into the ring post, where Vitalli follows up with several punches in an attempt to open Gallo up even more & make his face worse for wear. Gallo gets thrown over the barrier & into the crowd, where Vitalli perches himself on the top rope & the crowd scatters, afraid of what’s next to come. Gallo climbs back into the ringside area, but Vitalli still decides to go for it & lands a moonsault on Gallo, who’s standing outside the ring. Vitalli then drags a table out from under the ring & sets it up inside the ring. As Gallo gets back in the ring, Vitalli manages another upper hand attack & sets Gallo up for a suplex onto the table. Gallo breaks the hold & goes for the top rope, which turns out to be a HUGE mistake, as Gallo reverses Gallo’s attempt, & sends him crashing through the table via a Hurricanarama. As Vitalli goes for a cover, Gallo manages a kick out to the delight of the crowd. Angered by this, Vitalli drags out another table & sets it up outside the ring, using the ring barrier & the apron to hold the table up. Gallo gains the upper hand & sets up Vitalli for a suplex to try & send him crashing down onto Vitalli’s outside creation…which leads to both men throwing punches outside the ring. Vitalli manages to send Gallo through the table with a German suplex off the ring, through the table for both men. Gallo gets to his feet first & retrieves another ladder from under the ring. As Gallo sends the ladder into the ring, Vitalli lands a baseball slide into the ladder that sends the ladder into Gallo.
Gallo tries to climb back into the ring, but Vitalli hit’s a leg drop off the 2nd rope on Gallo. As Vitalli attempts to score on Gallo, Gallo reverses into a power slam. Gallo retrieves a third table from under the ring & sets it up in the center of the ring. Gallo then climbs outside the ring, where he pulls out a 2nd ladder for the night. Vitalli hit’s a super kick on an unexpected Gallo & sets him up on the table, as his fans cheer him on. Vitalli climbed up the ladder towards the top, preparing to leap off. Gallo rolled out of the way at the last second as Vitalli crashes through the table. Gallo applies the STF in an attempt to have Vitalli tap out, but Vitalli refuses to quit. Gallo releases the hold, only to reapply the hold, using a steel chair as the pressure point under the chin. Vitalli still continues to tap out, as the referee calls for the bell as Vitalli finally taps out in the ring to Gallo. Frenchy Rivera makes his way to the ring to check on his Freak Squad tag team partner, as he & Gallo both stand in the ring, steel chairs in hands, for a stare down. Neither men act on each other, as Rivera helps Vitalli out of the ring, & Gallo climbs the ladder to celebrate his victory & soak in the cheers of the crowd in what some folks were calling the Match of the Night.
As the ring gets cleared of it’s tables & ladders mess, Roxx discusses the next match that is about to happen & how much of an honor it is for him to announce this match. Tommy Dreamer made his way to the ring first, as he high fived the ringside fans prior to his Legends Match. Val Venis made his way to the ring for his pre-match ritual when Dreamer cut his friend short, asking Venis to allow him to do something he always wanted to do in the 12 years they’ve known each other. Venis was glad to oblige, as Dreamer took the towel & did his own impersonation of how Venis acts before a match to the delight of the crowd. Then both men egged on the crowd to see which side would get the towel prior to the match. After finally deciding by listening to the crowd, both men shook hands in the center of the ring to show the mutual respect they have for each other. And the match starts off with both men locking up in the center of the ring. Both men attempt to hiptoss each other, but both men fall short on their attempts, & a shoving contest breaks out in the ring between the 2 friends. Venis gets sent into the corner as Dreamer goes for a spear but misses, crashing into the ring post. Venis applies an arm bar in the center of the ring, but Dreamer escapes with punches to the midsection. Dreamer gets sent into the corner, as Venis misses a spear this time.
Both men battle outside to the ring, as Dreamer gets a hold of a drink & spits it into the face of Venis. Tempers begin to fly, as Dreamer decides to bring the match to the extreme, grabbing the ring bell & hammer. Dreamer uses the bell to choke out Venis, who is prone on the ring apron. Dreamer sets the bell down on the midsection of Venis, where he rings the bell to signify that the match could be over for Venis. Dreamer then takes a crutch from a fan at ringside, crashing it down on the back of Venis. Venis manages to mount a comeback on Dreamer, where he crotches him on the ringside barrier & follows up with forearms & elbows to Dreamer on the ring apron. Venis then connects with a Neckbreaker in the center of the ring, then exits to get a steel chair. Venis suplexes Dreamer in the ring, leaving him down & out. Venis climbs the ropes with his steel chair & jumps off, but Dreamer manages to get his foot up in enough time to send the chair into Venis. Venis is able to recuperate from the assault, as he sets the chair up, & hit’s a drop toehold onto the chair. Venis climbs the ropes to finish off Dreamer with the Money Shot. Just as Venis is about to fly off, Derrick Neikirk charges out from the back, & trips Venis on the ropes. Neikirk gets in the ring & kicks Dreamer with a low blow, as well. This brings Tyson Tyler out from the back to break off Neikirk’s assault, but the end results were to late for both men as the match is ruled a no contest.
Tyson Tyler grabs the mic & says he wants his match against Derrick Neikirk right now. Neikirk gets on the mic, as well, as adds, “I am the biggest star in this building. It was because of me, 2 Hall of Famers got carried out of this ring!” Neikirk adds that he will not start the match until he receives the proper ring introduction, music, & smoke display he deserves & leaves the ring area for the back. Tyler stays in the ring, fuming at Neikirk’s antics for the night as Roxx makes the in ring introductions. Neikirk makes his way to the ring & the bell rings, as both men display their athletic prowess in the ring with an amateur wrestling clinic for the fans. Neikirk lands a knee to the midsection & follows it up with a forearm to the back of Tyler. Tyler is then on the receiving end of a chop in the corner & is thrown outside the ring, into the barrier, where he receives more forearms to the back. Neikirk grabs Tyler outside the ring & sends him flying with a snap suplex on the hard, concrete floor then throws Tyler back in the ring. Neikirk uses his boot to choke out Tyler as the referee starts to issue his count.
Tyler manages to mount a comeback, as he corners Neikirk & connects with punches & kicks on his opponent. Neikirk escapes with a suplex
in the ring & CEO FTW makes his way ringside, very vocal on who he wants to win the match. Neikirk bounces off the ropes, but Tyler gets the upper hand with a release belly to belly suplex in the center of the ring. As Neikirk quickly gets to his feet, Tyler comes back with a standing dropkick that sends Neikirk back down on the mat. Neikirk once again attempts to get back to his feet, but Tyler sends him back down with not 1, but 2 clotheslines. A dominator off the ropes gets a pin attempt, but a kick out by Neikirk. Tyler gets Neikirk in the corner & goes for a bulldog out of the corner, but Neikirk reverses it into a belly to belly suplex. Neikirk then scales the ropes to launch an aerial attack on Tyler, but Tyler would have none of this as he runs towards the corner & hits Neikirk with a running Neckbreaker off the top rope. Tyler then goes for a pin, but as the referee counts, FTW makes his allegiance known & pulls the referee outside the ring. Val Venis makes his way from the back & chases FTW into the crowd & institutes himself as the new referee thanks to his experience as a guest ref back in his WWE days & at Wrestlemania2000.
Neikirk gets the advantage, much to the dismay of Venis, & goes for a pin. Venis starts to count the pin, but calls it off, noticing Neikirk’s feet on the rope. Neikirk goes for the championship belt to use as a weapon, but Venis pulls it away, & the 2 get into it. Venis gets taken out by Neikirk, but Tyler manages a roll up on Neikirk. Neikirk reverses the roll up into one of his own & holds onto the ropes for leverage, as the initial referee makes his way back into the ring. With the referee back in the action, Neikirk releases the ropes, but quickly grabs hold again as it looks as if Tyler is going to kick out. And a 3 count later, Neikirk is declared the first ever Elite Xtreme Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. Venis gets in the ring, as Tyler leaves the ring in disgust, & Venis apologizes to Tyler for what has happened. Venis, in disgust as well, hands Neikirk the championship belt & raises his hand in victory. Venis then gives Neikirk a taste of his own medicine & kicks him in the crotch region. Venis grabs the championship belt & trash talks Neikirk prone on the mat, then drops the belt on him, & leaves the ring….leaving the new EXW Heavyweight Champion down & out in the center of the ring to end the show.
As the fans left the building for the night, new questions were formed as old questions were answered. Derrick Neikirk left the building as the first Heavyweight Champion, but now he has 2 men gunning for his championship belt. And does Tyson Tyler hold any animosity towards Val Venis for his involvement in the match? Plus, why did FTW get involved in the match instead of staying a spectator? Is he out to protect Derrick Neikirk as his key investment for EXW?
And obviously by the stare down after the TLC Match, things are not over between Gabriel Gallo & the Freak Squad…not by a long shot. What does the future hold for the 3 men? And is Chuey Martinez done with his loss to Rivera or will he want more revenge?
Ryan Castelucci overcame the odds, beating 6 men on his own. But Andrew Hellman made his point known afterwards. Is Hellman a hired hitman for FTW? Or was Hellman the man behind the attack on Woodro Santenelli?
This Tuesday at Toby Keith’s may or may not have the answers to these questions. But without a doubt, the heat may be cooling off in Arizona as the summer comes to an end, the Autumn months are about to heat up in EXW, as The Day the Earth Stood Still definitely delivered & lived up to it’s hype. Stay tuned to EXW to see what unfolds as things are just beginning to go crazy inside & outside the ring!
