Standing 5 feet, 10 inches & weighing in at 205 pounds, & from Skull Valley, Arizona Bryce Slaven is a cruiserweight with an attitude. And he is a cruiserweight on a mission in Elite Xtreme Wrestling. Having only 2 matches currently under his belt in EXW, Slaven has been wrestling the independent circuit for 3 years now & is not afraid of any challenge thrown his way.
Slaven got his start locally, training under the tutelage Gabriel Gallo & Derrick Neikirk, Slaven decided to break away on his own & move away from his mentors to show that he can handle the wrestling business without their help. And in doing so, Slaven is currently the Light Heavyweight Champion in Vegas Championship Wrestling, following in the footsteps such great cruiserweights who paved the way like Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, & Dean Malenko…all former World Championship Wrestling Cruiserweight Champions. But what exactly made Slaven decide on this career path as a child? “When I was a kid I got into old WWF, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man and then as i got older i fell out of the loop and then in '97 I watched WCW Nitro and watched the NWO and i fell in love with the group and then as i got more into it i fell in love with the technical aspect of wrestling. Guys like Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho and then my all time favorite Bret the Hitman Hart. So it's safe to say that Bret Hart is and will always be what makes me wanna be a professional wrestler.”
After traveling around Utah and the Nevada region of independent wrestling, Slaven decided to have a homecoming of sorts with his mentors Gabriel Gallo & Derrick Neikirk. And what better
way to do so then Arizona’s hottest wrestling promotion, EXW. “Gallo, Neikirk and I have history. When i started with in Arizona, they were the ones who started my training, who gave me the confidence to do what i love.
When i departed from Arizona. I started working in Las Vegas and everything that they showed and taught me i still do in the ring to this day. When I had found out that Gallo and Neikirk were working for EXW, I felt that i was the right fit for what the promotion was all about and it'd be a perfect fit for me to come full circle from where i started to where I’m at now.”
So Slaven chose Xtreme Tuesday on August 3rd, 2010, to make his Arizona Homecoming known to his mentors. And who would his first opponent be but Derrick Neikirk’s archrival, Tyson Tyler. Tyler was out to send a message to Neikirk via his former student as Slaven tapped out to the Liontamer in the center of the ring. This loss did not sell Slaven short, as he was back in the EXW ring 2 weeks later against an old enemy of his, Crash Test Cody. Both men have a long standing rivalry that has taken them to Utah, Nevada, & apparently now Arizona. “Cody and I have trained together and we've traveled together and he has been nothing but a loose end and a liability. I'm sick of picking up the slack from him and having to carry the weight every time we are in the ring together. A year ago we had our first battle in the ring and he knocked a tooth out of my mouth! The next time we did battle in the ring it was a dog collar match. One of the most talked about matches ever in the history of Vegas Championship Wrestling. We went from pillar to post, out in the crowd. We beat the living hell out of each other and if we were to continue this on going feud in EXW you can guarantee it would be the most talked about feud in EXW for some time.”
But unfortunately, their match was cut short here in Arizona by EXW CEO F.T.W., as he claimed he wasn’t pleased with what he was seeing in the ring after 5 minutes. So FTW decided to make some changes to the Crash Test Cody/Bryce Slaven match & make it into a Triple Threat, bringing a fresh Johnny Manson out “I can honestly say that Cody and I were on our way to have a bout that the EXW fans would remember and talk about for months and for FTW to interrupt and make it a three way with Manson only goes to show that favoritism exists in EXW. You put me into he ring with Cody, Manson, Tyler, I don't care who. You can bet your ass that the fans will go home with something to remember. So i leave it up to FTW to bring out anyone that he thinks can stand toe to toe with me and the end result will be a 1,2,3 for Slaven.”
The events did not end well for neither Cody nor Slaven though, as Johnny Manson won the match via a DDT/Reverse Neckbreaker Combination. But Slaven does not hold any ill feelings at all towards FTW for the turn of events that cost him his 2nd loss. “A better term would be disrespect. I may be the new guy on the block for EXW but rest assured I can hold my own against anyone on the EXW roster and the fans will remember my name.”
This isn’t the first time FTW has made any changes on the fly though in EXW. FTW has also made the team of Ryan Castelucci & Woodro Santenelli face in each in not 1, but 2 matches…trying to form a rift between the cousins/partners. And FTW has also fired his personal dancer, Ivy DeVine, as well as the rest of the Xtasy Dancers in an attempt to make EXW more wrestling orientated. Slaven happened to be in attendance during both events & shared his 2 cents on the recent actions, including what was done to his own singles match, “As far as FTW goes he has no idea what i can bring to the table, therefore, for him to interrupt my match with Crash Test was uncalled for. He will learn just like anyone else that Slaven can hold his own against anyone. And as far as Atlantic City All-Stars go. Their beef with FTW is none of my concern. And as far as the Xtasy dancers. Pro wrestling is and will always will be a man's sport. We don't need a side show to take away from the action in the ring. And that's all i gotta say about that.”
And now that Slaven does have 2 matches under his EXW belt, he feels the losses do not hurt him in any way, shape, or form. “Not to take anything away from Tyson Tyler but we've had history and on any given night i can walk away with the W. And as far as Crash Test Cody and Manson go, they were lucky enough to not get permanently hurt. So to answer your question it's only the beginning of Bryce Slaven in EXW and you better bet your ass that there's plenty more to come.”
So who does Slaven want to get in the ring with next, given the chance to pick his own opponent? “If i could face anybody in the EXW roster it would have to be Gallo for the simple fact that he has taught me much of what i know now but he hasn't taught me everything. I think him and i could go from bell to bell, hold for hold and leave the fans knowing that what they just saw was the best match EXW could put on. Plain and simple.”
Slaven did add some insight on possible changes to EXW though that could make things better for himself, as well as other cruiserweights such as Crash Test Cody, the Prophet, etc. “I think EXW needs a light heavyweight division for guys like myself to get the recognition they deserve amongst the heavyweights. If there ever would be a light heavyweight division, Slaven would be the champ undeniably “
And now that Slaven has started making a name for himself in EXW, he’s ready to take on the future. And nobody else but Slaven knows what that future will hold, “Dominating every promotion I work for. In EXW it's to make the top guy's take notice that I am here to stay and a force not to be denied. As far as the big league's go, it's simple to be the very best at what I do and to leave my mark on the industry that I love…pro wrestling.”
