Crashing Into EXW!!
By: Toom E. Guci
“This is a gimmick that would make Wrestlecrap proud, “ is what one fan yelled out on August 3rd, 2010 during Xtreme Tuesday for the debut of EXW’s newest acquisition, Crash Test Cody. But being deemed Wrestlecrap is definitely not a bad thing. Look at some of the previous greats who have held this honor: Chavo Guerrero as Kerwin White, Perry Saturn & Moppy, the late great John Tenta is not a shark, & even WWE’s own untouchable, Triple H, was not only inducted in Wrestlecrap with Kane & Katie Vick, but the 3 of them were an annual Gooker Award Winner in 2002. So for Crash Test Cody, it should be an honor to have his name included amongst some of wrestling’s greats. After all, it was a previous Wrestlecrap induction that lead to him witnessing his first wrestling event as a child. “In 1990 I was about five years old. I was a huge fan of Robocop, I always wanted to be him. Part man. Part machine. All cop. It was about the time the sequel was about to be released. So in order to get me prepared for the movie premiere, my mom’s boyfriend at the time decided to order the WCW Capital Combat ppv, which featured a "match" between Robocop and Sting vs the Four Horseman. I decided at that point in order to become the nation's number one law enforcer, I had to become a professional wrestler.”
But Cody’s love for wrestling grew from there. Thankfully, Robocop’s wrestling career did not grow from there. Cody went on though to join the Adrenaline Unleashed group in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he started to train to become a professional wrestler. And to this day, Cody has been wrestling a little over a year. That’s WELL over how long his first EXW match was against Derrick Neikirk. Cody has traveled around though, honing his skills in various promotions. “I have worked for PWR )Pro Wrestling Revolution, VCW (Vegas Championship Wrestling), FSW (Future Stars of Wrestling) and more recently EXW and am getting ready to make my debut in WAR (Wrestling Alliance of the Rockies) Utah.”
Hailing from the Highway Loss Data Institute of Coast City, Cody decided that the name Crash Test Cody fit him quite well with the help of Joe DeFalco from FSW. “The name and gimmick idea was originally created by Joe DeFalco, the booker for Future Stars of Wrestling. The idea came to him after I took a choke slam over the top rope to the outside during a battle royal. He said I looked like a crash test dummy. It's all been full frontal impact from there.”
Being so new to the wrestling business, Cody has yet to win any major championships. But the good news is he is 5 time, 5 time, 5 time, 5 time, 5 time award winner! “I did get the Top Safety Award pick five years running”
This award alone shows that Cody is always thinking safety first! But, when facing Derrick Neikirk at Xtreme Tuesday, safety first was not the key issue. In fact, Neikirk disposed of Cody in less then 30 seconds after kicking him with a low blow & following it up with a swinging neck breaker for the pin. Size was also definitely a factor, as Neikirk was just a tad bit taller then Cody. So, just what was going through Cody’s mind as he stood in the ring, face to face with Neikirk? “Not in the face, not in the face, not in the face.”
Thankfully, Cody’s face was quite safe. His neck, on the other hand, is a whole other story. “In a recent rollover test done at the Coast City Highway Traffic Safety Administration the damage done to the neck at the hands of Neikirk received a 1 out of 5 star rating, which equals a 40 percent chance of injury upon impact. Which, in layman’s terms, means that I got whiplash. “
In the long run, all Cody needed was a bag of ice & some bed rest. Now Cody sees Neikirk has his hands full with both Tyson Tyler & Sean “Val Venis” Morley. This doesn’t mean revenge is not on the mind of Cody by a long shot! “To be truthful, this isn't the first time I've had a run in with this guy. He's one tough customer, but next time our paths cross, he's going to have to worry about his safety!”
So now that Cody is in EXW & he seems to have his head on straight, his eyes on the future, & over a year in the ring under his belt…the big question is, just how did EXW & CEO F.T.W. bring their possible first Wrestlecrap contender to EXW? “I was hanging around the Arizona Proving Ground and I heard about how EXW was an upcoming promotion in which I decided I would try to make a "Crash" landing.”
Cody went on to contact EXW & not the other way around, it turns out. Just why is Cody interested in EXW then? “New opportunities, new goals, and a new side air bag feature.”
And just who would Cody like to face next in the EXW ring, given the chance? “I think that Johnny Manson would put up a great match, I also wouldn't mind teaming with him.”
Manson would make for a good opponent for Cody, as both seem to have a in-ring style. But you never know when F.T.W. will come out & make a shocking announcement like he did at Xtreme Tuesday when he fired Ivy DeVine. Cody was 1 of the EXW superstars in the ring during the public firing & was actually quite shocked at what he had witnessed. “I was like OMG FTW, WTF?!!!”
So what does the future have in store for one Mr. Crash Test Cody? Can we hopefully see him back in the EXW ring? Some fans would like to see that. Many fans would like to see just what Cody can do in the ring & if he can last more then 30 seconds. After all, he has wrestled in 4 other promotions in the United States & has held his own quite well against opponents, including wrestling in a Dog Collar Match. But what does Cody think the future holds for him? “I can only hope to beat the Volvo in overall safety satisfaction and get a five star rating in my upcoming matches for the company!”
Let’s just hope F.T.W. likes what he saw of this gutless kid in his EXW debut & invites him back. After all, having to face an elite athlete such as Derrick Neikirk in your first match is definitely not a bad thing…especially if you’re able to get up afterwards & walk away & talk about it. And that’s just what Cody was able to do. Plus, every wrestling promotion needs a Wrestlecrap candidate because it gets the fans talking. And the fans were talking about & paying attention to Crash Test Cody that night!
