And here are the canidates for EXW's Wrestler of the Year:
But, alas...there is a slight problem on this list. And in typical fashion, I am going to open my mouth & voice my opinion.
If you're going to make a list with so much talent, why don't you be fair & include some of the names who have been around longer & done more then (no offense to them), the likes of The Dude, Dexter Verity, or Jay Garland. True, all 3 men are exceptional athletes at what they do. But, let's take a look at some wrestlers who have done so much more in EXW & past through those doors to enter the ring.
Dom "the Bomb" Vitalli: Love the man, hate the man...you know you respect him. We all know I have no love for Dom...after all, he attacked me not once, but twice! But but in 2011, he is the only man who has held not only all 3 EXW Championships when they meant something, but he held all 3 championships at the same time! Top it off with the fact that last year, he was voted the Wrestler of the Year in Kelly Floyd's Poll via the internet. Whether that was an official poll or not, the fact is he received more votes. And he has been involved in a number of matches that qualify for Match of the Year, including a match against his former tag team partner Frenchy Rivieria.
Frenchy Riviera: Yes, Frenchy left EXW over the summer...BUT he did so much in that company. And for a man his size, he was incredibly agile & held some classic matches. 3 matches alone would definetly be categorized as Match of the Year...Gabriel Gallo Last Man Standing, Gabriel Gallo Stretcher Match, & Dom Vitalli in Frenchy's Final EXW Match. Frenchy was, by far, the better man in his battles with Gallo a number of times, bringing the Kinf of No Rules to the edge.
Johnny Manson: True, Manson was what some folks would call a "comedy wrestler" for part of the year, but he took every single gimmick he impersonated & ran with it. He showed the fans that he could adapt to every style he impersonated, from Hulk Hogan to CM Punk to Sandman to Shawn Micheals in his Rockers days to Undertaker. And it was as the Undertaker where Manson had his best match of the year, a definite Match of the Year Canidate, against Miracle Mike James. Manson has done nothing but put his body on the line this entire year for his love of the sport.
Josh Carey: Here's a young man who started his EXW career just setting up the ring as he learned the craft. In his debut, he had a name that everybody made fun of...JB Badd. But he overcame that & proved to the fans that he was, by far, a force to reckon with. Granted he lost matches for the longest time, true. But he learned from those loses to overcome, changed his name, & each & every time he stepped in the ring, he improved, showing the fans that he was paying attention to his teachers. And if this man isn;t included in the Wrestler of the Year running, he at least is definetly a winner of Most Improved Wrestler & Rookie of the Year.
Sergio Vega: If you're going to include Jay Garland in the list, then you have to include Sergio Vega. Why? In Vega's third show with EXW, he made it to the finals of the Adrenaline Cup Tournament against long time EXW wrestler, Kyle Hawk, & came close to winning the finals a number of times. Sergio showed the fans he has the heart & spirit in that ring to come back for more. And with his attitude change, he will definetly be a force to reckon with in 2012!
So there you have my list of who should be in the votes that are not included. And my reasonings for why they should be in the voting, as well.
Care to share your views or opinions of my list...or even who you voted for & why, go ahead!
I admit, I voted for Ray Basura. I have been VERY high on Basura since his EXW debut. The man is not afraid of the mic & knows how to cut a promo. When he's in the ring, you will be guaranteed a great match from him. Each time I see him, I am impressed with his in-ring work, as well as his gimmick. Nobody has done a gimmick like his, hence the originallity of this man is equisite!
And honestly, I voted Basura since Josh Carey was not on the list...and see above of why I would have voted for Caey had he been in the running.
