So after this so-called "Supershow", I am seriously considering retiring the Highs & Lows for real. Once again, I have been let down by a show that I attended. I don't mind spending money to see a wrestling show. I been paying to get into indy shows a lot longer then half the talent of EXW has been wrestling. I mean, come on...I was at Gabriel Gallo's first match! But give me something that stands out each show. Something that I want to walk away from, saying, "Damn! I am so glad I didn't miss that match!" Because honestly, tonight did not deliever that feeling & it's not the first time EXW has done this.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the wrestlers coming out, busting their asses, doing what they do, traveling hundreds of miles, & putting on a show. Most of the problem does not fall on them. Granted, you have some talent who has never worked with each other before so things may get sloppy...which tonight was a prime example of for some matches. But tonight, we also had 3 matches that were pretty much rematches from the previous show...WITH THE SAME OUTCOME!!
I know you're taping a tv show & that you have a certain time allocated to tv, but there were so many mistakes in trying to build the tv aspect. TV is supposed to bring you more fans to the shows...but when you're catering to the audience at home to draw them in, that's mistake #1. Why should the common fan pay $10 to see the exact same show on tv? There's no extras! There's no dark main event. There were no in ring promos. Only time you saw a promo tonight is if you showed up at 630, when the doors were supposed to open as advertised & weren't, to see 3 promos filmed in the parking lot. And the only promo worth watching was Rexx Reed's...which is funny, since 1 of the promos was Val Venis.
And on that note, let's begin!
Highs:
Rexx Reed's pre show promo in the parking lot. He pretty much showed everybody how to get a pretaped promo done!
Ryan Castellucci's facial expressions prior to his Big Vito match. Ryan truly did a great job selling the concern for what he was about to do.
The Lucha Tag Match...this match was actually better then their prior match two weeks ago...although, the faces went over...AGAIN!
Return of Shane Stratmore & Andrew Hellman. Both men looked good.
Johnny Roxx gets a new man to manage...& somebody who could REALLY use the help of a manager! Finally, Roxx gets used right!
Lows:
The show started a half hour AFTER the advertised start time.
The matches felt way to rushed! EXW not only advertised an extra half hour, but more matches for the Supershow...yet, we had about a total of 12 or 13 matches in a 2 hour span. There was no extra half hour with the show starting late. It got over at the same time of 10pm!
The 3 Italian Guys are becoming to much like the replacement of the Freak Squad. Unstoppable, dominate, annoying. And again...no Guido? YOU AIN'T THE F.B.I.! Yes, you are former Vince's boys...but you don't need to be the focal point of an independent wrestling promotion. The whole point of an indy company is to teach lessons to the up & comers & make THEM the focal point!
Dex Verity...why the hell did you guys change Dex Verity's gimmick? His Bible thumping gimmick was working for him! True, religious gimmicks do not go over with fans, but 3 have in the past: Brother Love, Lehi David Smith, & Dexter Verity. Why did Dexter's work? Because he wasn't preaching it on the microphone...he was talking to the fans ringside about it. And his in-ring skills made it that much better! We don't need another Val Venis! Let the kid build himself up on his own!
If you really wanted Chuck Palumbo to squash Mosh Pit Mike...then you did not need to drag the damn match out so long!
If you don't watch the TV show...you're lost on the angles going. Maybe some kind of in-ring promo's to help establish to those who don't stay up till 11pm Saturday nights.
Woody becomes Adam Smasher & now Ivan whatever the hell is last name is? Really? Why do we need to change his name...AGAIN! Just leave the damn name alone. Plus, loses by a school boy roll up TWICE in the same night?
Lucha Starr should have worn a better costume for the switcheroo, as the tattoos on his twin did not make the switch convincing to the fans.
Jay Garland/Josh Carey....Lucha Tag Team Match...Mike James/WillieMack....AGAIN?!?!?! And same outcome?!?!?! Garland gets pinned. Hippie & his partner wins. Mike gets dq'ed for a foreign object. Oops...I should have said spoiler warning, but it doesn't matter!
How many faces versus faces & heels versus heels matches do we need? You have how many guys in the locker room & some pulling double duty....yet, we still get faces versus faces & heels versus heels for more then half the show?
And why do we have a tag team championship....and only ONE TAG TEAM MATCH!!! And the match doesn't even involve the tag team champions?
The new referee was horrible, had to be coached from ringside (which was distracting), & off his mark MANY times! You might as well have had a fan in there!
Like I said, I understand the whole tv time situation. But instead of going the Supershow aspect, why not make the matches longer & do 2 matches a show & include your backstage segments? The crowd was fairly dead the whole night because by the time they got into a match, it was over!
Top it off with the fact that they only announced 2 up coming shows...1 towards the end of November & that Holiday Havock show...it sounds like things are getting cut back show wise & that doesn't sound good for the fans or the wrestlers. Then again, the crowds have been the same numbers as Toby Keith's. Maybe leaving Toby Keith's, as much as I enjoy the feel at Celebrity Theatre & the fact that it's more wrestling friendly, was a bad idea? Especially since I only recognize less then a dozen faces in the crowd at Celebrity, meaning a lot of loyalists from the Toby Keith's days stopped going. And the playback on TV looks like maybe 2 dozen fans are in attendance.
