After doing some thinking the last few weeks, I came to a conclusion that yes, indeed...retirement does suck. Just ask Ric Flair, Terry Funk, or Roddy Piper. Each man retired only to return again & again & again. No disrespect to them, but how many times can one wrestler get a retirement montage video?
So with recent events in my life that a handful of folks already know about, I decided it was time to bring back the Highs & Lows & make wrestling fun for me again! Some folks will read this & say, "Oh, he's just bitter." Other folks may even take cheapshots at me for voicing my opinion. But in the end, it will be read & my voice will be heard once again. Will it be listened to? Who knows!
See the more reviews a company gets, it shows that the folks in attendance are paying attention. After all, psycho Andy came out to the last show (at my request) & shared his thoughts in a review. And I thank him for taking the time to come out. Plus, Kelly Floyd & the Masked Blogster both write seperate reviews that I enjoy reading every time they're posted. But, as folks are aware in the past, my reviews go a different route.
And honestly, I picked the wrong show to come out of retirement! Sunday is Xtreme Measures...the BIG show of the company. So Adrenaline Rush was taking place 5 days prior to it as the big go home show. Funny thing is, we had NO clue what Sunday's matches were. If you follow EXW on Facebook, you had the Dom Challenge plus they announced on their event invite that Team Elite would face Freak Squad for the tag titles...THAT'S IT! Not a strong selling point, personally. Top it off with Tuesday being free to bring in hopes of bringing a bigger fanbase. Good move, as I honestly haven't seen a crowd that big in Toby Keith's for quite...well, I don't ever recall seeing a crowd that big at Toby's.
Did the go home show deliever? Did it have potential to bring in new fans? Nope! Not at all! And you will see why I feel this way in just a moment, as we begin the Highs & Lows!
Highs:
Opening the show with a Tribute Video to Randy Savage & a 10 Bell Salute. Any time an indy promotion respects those who paved the way for them is beautiful.
Willie Mack/Gray Charles (yeah, it was hard to hear his name so I am stealing Andy's name for him) was a strong opening contest!
Cutler Wright/Cedric the Hitman was a strong closing contest! Both matches honestly should tie for Match of the Night.
I personally am enjoying Johnny Manson's current gimmick. And Bret Hart was well done. Mind ya, last show...Hogan was better, but still.
The Return of Sheik. THANK YOU!!! Finally, Sheik returns to put Osborne in his place. After all, we all know heel GM's=RATINGS!
Tommy Dreamer is announced as Dom Vitalli's opponent for Sunday. This could be the biggest match of Dom's career! I actually look forward to the match, but I hope nobody gets involved.
4 matches set for Sunday's Xtreme Measures. At least we have an idea what we're in for now.
Robocop chant.
Shadow Fox & Prophet looked better in this tag match then before.
The return of Devin Sparks. I am personally very high on this guy. I think he's great in the ring & the videos I have seen of his promos, the man can talk! So let him do the talking & not Osborne!
Good to see Lawrence Tyler back in some shape....even if commentary!
A strong turn out in fans.
Johnny did a great job in selling his beatdown by Derick.
Lows:
Wanna pay tribute to Randy Savage? Fine! Do a good elbow drop! Gallo's elbow drop looks like he just climbed the ropes & fell, putting his elbow out. Dom does one across the ring at the same time, has lights in his way, yet his elbow drop is picture perfect & continued proof as to why I have always said Dom's elbow drop is the best one this side of Savage.
Why do we need the Freak Squad getting involved in Frenchy/Sal's match? Frenchy had him beat already. If you're going the direction that is pretty much obvious, you've berated Frenchy, embarased him with your words, STAY OUT OF THE MATCH & LET HIM DO IT HIMSELF!
No Rexx Reed, Mosh Pit Mike, Ray Basura, Kyle Hawk, or Terra Callaway. Trying to bring new fans in, give us folks who are normally on the roster. True, they probally all had prior agreements to attend...but those men & lady are recognized by the regular folks & can help explain things to the new folks.
I like Adan Reyes, I think he's a talented wrestler...but he needs to come around more often for fans to care.
Hey, look...On The Roxx is opening the show...WITH THE SAME GUESTS OF EVERY SHOW! Change it up!
Balls? Pecker? (True, that one came from the fans) Vagina? What grade are we in again? I have always been against the whole balls thing since it began...but it just keeps getting worse.
JB Badd wrestles Clutch in his debut. Now he's teaming up with him....because?
Way to many promos. Don't you want to keep the fans hot match after match instead of giving them 10 minute rest periods in between?
Somebody teach Osborne how to talk on the microphone! He was improving, but the last 2 shows he went back downhill.
Why is The Network not wrestling?
Last show, Eric Watts from Tough Enough was advertised as being at this show...or am I the only one who remembers that?
WCW Capital Combat Flashback....ROBOCOP!!!
Is Hellman face or heel? Things seem to be flip flopping like crazy!
Cutler wants his rematch for a vacant title. Hellman wants a shot at the vacant title. So instead of announcing the filling of the vacant title, they will wrestle with winner getting Number 1 Contender to the Heavyweight Championship? Wha! Did I miss something?
I hear Prophet may have broken his arm....not good!
Gallo took pride in busting open JB Badd...really?
No update on Mike James' injury.
No Mike James, for that matter!
Largest crowd in quite some time, yet they seemed very quiet...even the regulars.
Manson gets the crap beat out of him, let's leave him laying around so we can get an announcement in & a promo in. Makes sense! Guy could be hurt, but hey...Comic Con is this weekend!
An injunction against Neikirk regarding Dom? Really? Dom is the only Triple Threat Champion & we want him to look scared of Derick?
No Beaver Las Vagas.
Professional wrestling...there's going to be good shows, there's going to be bad shows, there's going to be in between shows. WWF has it that way. WCW had it that way. TNA has it that way. And IZW had it that way. But on a bad show, there's always going to be that stand out match. Willie Mack versus Gray as well as Cutler Wright versus Cedric the Hitman were those matches!
But for a go home show prior to what could be considered a pay per view....yeah, no strong delivery. Think it will bring in new fans though? We'll find out in 2 weeks, won't we? But could announcing 3 matches 5 days before the big show fill up Celebrity Theatre? A venue that has housed ECW & various chapters of the NWA? Maybe a little more should have been announced...or maybe that's just me?
